While the Holiday Season is a time for giving thanks with family and friends, the sad reality is that for the more than 250 families with children currently waiting in emergency shelters to access a Save the Family program, this year may be a season filled with strife and angst. Save the Family has embarked on a growth campaign to significantly expand so that we can help the hundreds of families who need our help. This requires us to raise $450,000 before the end of the year. Our holiday wish is to help more families, but we can’t do it alone – we need your help.
As a result of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding cuts, the last few months have been some of the most heartbreaking I have witnessed in our community. Prior to the HUD cuts, families were waiting an average of 1-3 weeks to access our programs. Since then, the wait time has increased to an agonizing 3-4 months! While largely unseen, about 50 new families are slipping into homelessness each week. Area shelters are at maximum capacity.
These families are our neighbors. Twenty-eight years ago Save the Family made it our mission to help them through the difficult times and assist them in building more secure lives for their for their families.
Every family matters and every dollar counts. Together we can make a profound and lasting impact for homeless families in our community. Please help us ensure that this Holiday Season will be one filled with hope for homeless families in our community.
Here is to a joyful 2016 holiday season!
All my best,
P.S. Take advantage of the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit. You can receive a dollar-for-dollar state tax credit for your donation to Save the Family, up to $400 if you file individually or $800 if you file jointly. You do NOT have to itemize your taxes to take advantage of this state tax credit.
