Volunteers have always played an integral role in Save the Family’s success. Last year over 7,800 volunteers gave the gift of time equaling over 27,000 service hours! Save the Family’s volunteers contribute more than $1,000,000 in time and in-kind donations annually.

Current Volunteer Offerings

Every year Save the Family provides holiday food baskets and gifts for families who would otherwise be unable to celebrate the season.  We welcome groups who will sponsor holiday meals and gifts in November and December.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we are fully sponsored for Thanksgiving already! To see the Christmas Sponsorship details, click HERE. Email our incredible, all-volunteer Holiday Sponsorship Team to register.

If you’d like to help for the holidays but family sponsorship isn’t for you, you can purchase one or more items on our Amazon Wish List. Items purchased from the list will be provided to children attending our Saturday, December 10th Christmas Party (held for families not registered for a full sponsorship).

However you give this holiday season, you make a difference for families in need! Contact us to learn more.

Our Affordable Rental Movement provides more than 190 units of affordable housing in Maricopa County (most are in the East Valley).  Volunteers play a vital role in our “Welcome Home” program by cleaning and painting homes to help prepare units quickly.  Save the Family will provide all supplies, including bottled water.  Projects can be completed within 3 to 4 hours when a group of 8 to 10 volunteers participate. We schedule group projects Monday through Friday during agency business hours and Saturday mornings, 9am to 12pm. Paint and clean group projects can be scheduled up to six months in advance.  (Please be advised that these projects are booked out for several months.)

Small groups of 5 to 10 volunteers are perfect to help Save the Family keep our classrooms and playrooms clean. Volunteer duties consist of cleaning and organizing three small rooms at our main office in Mesa.  Save the Family will provide all supplies.  Projects are scheduled Monday through Friday during agency business hours and Saturday mornings, 9am to 11am.

Save the Family welcomes volunteers willing to organize donation drives with their club, church, business, or neighborhood group.  Drives allow us to support “Missy’s Mall,” which includes critical items and supplies homeless families need, including personal hygiene items, clothing, shoes, and household cleaning products.  Baby showers are hosted for parents to help them with essential items they will need to welcome their new baby.  Groups of 8 to 12 volunteers organize each shower, providing refreshments, decorations, and gifts.  Showers are held weeknights, 5pm to 7:30pm.

The needs of homeless and impoverished families change over time, so we offer an array of beneficial classes to empower them and propel success. Volunteers currently teach classes in the following areas:

  1. GED tutoring
  2. Financial literacy
  3. Nutrition
  4. Career development and support

Some volunteers also provide resources from the community for our families and help with special events. For an updated listing of other volunteer opportunities, check out our Volunteer Opportunities & In-Kind Needs.
