A Journey of Hope: Leticia Rivera’s Story

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Save the Family Foundation of Arizona’s impactful work was highlighted through the story of Leticia Rivera and her two children. After fleeing a dangerous situation, Leticia found a safe haven and a fresh start through Save the Family’s comprehensive support program.

In Phoenix, domestic violence is a significant factor in homelessness, affecting 40% of homeless women, as noted by the Maricopa Association of Governments. Jenna Panas, CEO of ACESDV, emphasized the connection between seeking safety and experiencing homelessness.

Through Save the Family’s unique model, participants like Leticia live rent-free while paying $500 monthly toward a support fund, which they receive back upon completing the year-long program. These services—spanning job training, financial literacy, and parenting education—enable families to rebuild their lives. According to CEO Robyn Julien, 80% of program graduates move into permanent, affordable housing.

In December of 2024, Leticia graduated from the program and transitioned into permanent housing—a heartwarming milestone she describes as a “nice little Christmas gift.” Her journey is a testament to the transformative power of community support and resilience, offering hope and inspiration to her children and others facing similar challenges.
