Save the family was honored to be part of the annual Phoenix Mercury and Fry’s Trading Places event on May 14, 2025. Two of our very own families were selected to go on a grocery shopping spree alongside Mercury players, turning a simple trip to the store into a memory of a lifetime.
Held at the Fry’s store at 4707 E. Shea Blvd in Phoenix, this one-of-a-kind event invited WNBA stars to trade roles for the day—stepping behind the register, stocking shelves, and most importantly, walking alongside our local families to help them shop.

Game Changers On and Off the Court
Two Phoenix Mercury players were paired with two Save the Family families, offering more than just grocery help—they brought the energy and their coaching skills to help the families fill their carts.
For many families facing homelessness or economic hardship, something as simple as a fully stocked pantry can feel out of reach.
“Moments like these remind us that our families deserve more than stability—they deserve moments like this one, with local celebrities and the community cheering them on,” said Robyn Julien, CEO of Save the Family.
A Community Effort, a Lasting Impact
The event was part of the Phoenix Mercury and Fry’s Food Stores’ annual employee engagement and community giveback initiative, with players spread out across multiple Fry’s locations throughout the Valley.
We’re deeply grateful to the Phoenix Mercury, Fry’s, and their incredible team— especially the players who brought smiles and strength to our families. Making our families feel like the real MVP’s.
