There were smiles, shopping carts overflowing with groceries, and plenty of excitement as Save the Family once again partnered with the Phoenix Mercury and Fry’s Food Stores for their annual Trading Places event — a special community tradition that helps local families stock their kitchens and ease financial stress in a big way.

This year, two families were selected by Save the Family to participate, each receiving $1,000 worth of groceries during the event alongside Phoenix Mercury players and community partners.
The event featured Lakasha Johnson and her two young children, ages 1 and 4, along with Shandra Blackmon and her three children, ages 7, 12, and 15.
As the families made their way through the aisles filling carts with essentials, favorite snacks, fresh foods, and household staples, the atmosphere was full of joy, laughter, and gratitude.
Partnerships like this make a meaningful difference for families navigating financial challenges. Rising grocery prices continue to place enormous pressure on household budgets, especially for parents balancing housing, childcare, transportation, and other everyday expenses. Events like Trading Places help provide immediate relief while reminding families they are supported by a caring community.
Save the Family is incredibly grateful to the Phoenix Mercury, Fry’s Food Stores, and everyone involved in organizing this year’s event for continuing this wonderful tradition.
